It's not about the grading, it's about the learning
Standards-Based Learning
Dobson Grading Policies
No Penatlty for Late or Resubmitted Work
Teachers will accept late and resubmitted work without penalty to the final grade.
No Extra Credit (And removing other Grade Hacks)
Teachers will not provide opportunties for extra credit.
Students interested in raising their grade may instead be provided opportunities to retake work, or even alternative assessments that replace previous scores.
Throughout the implementation of more accurate grading practices, teachers will begin to phase out "Grade Hacks", as they will no longer be necessary.
Equitable Grading Scale
Teachers will utilize a modified Marazano 0-4 Grading Scale.
In most cases, the 0-4 grading scale will be done in conjunction with Standards-Based Grading. But for classes the currently lack state standards, a 50-100 scale is the closest equivelant. Grades will still be coded as 0-4, but may appear slightly different.

Understanding Report Cards & Transfer Grades
Dobson High School is in the process of adopting a new standards-based grading system. While some grades, both interim and final, will still follow the traditional 0-100 point scale, most grades will now be shown on a 0-4 proficiency scale. Letter grades will be provided for Quarter and Semester assessments. If you have any questions, you can refer to the provided conversion chart for assistance.

Grading Philosophy
Dobson High School seeks to achieve grading practices that are accurate, bias-resistant, and motivational. Some of the ways we achieve this is through: no penalty for late or resubmitted work, providing multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery, and using an equitable grading scale.
What is Standards-Based Learning and Grading, and Why is it Important?
Standards-based learning and grading represent a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing education through well-researched methods. To ensure precise assessment and effective communication of student progress, Dobson High School has implemented a grading system that aligns with the educational standards students are expected to achieve.
