Dobson’s College & Career Academies are the hallmark of our school and a model of innovation across the district. They give students a structure for exploring interests, connecting learning to life beyond high school, and developing the skills highlighted in the MPS Portrait of a Graduate—creativity, communication, collaboration, problem solving, and ethical leadership.

Dobson currently offers three academies:

Health & Medical Sciences
Public Service
Digital Media & Creative Arts

These academies are not narrow career “tracks.” Instead, they provide a broad, interdisciplinary, purpose-driven framework that blends rigorous academics with real-world application. Students work in cohorts, engage in integrated projects, and collaborate with teachers who plan together across content areas. Community partnerships—from hospitals and city government to creative studios and local nonprofits—offer students authentic experiences such as:

Job shadowing and internships
Mock interviews and portfolio development
Guest speakers and industry mentorship
Interdisciplinary projects connected to real community needs

Students apply during ninth grade and receive guidance throughout high school from teachers, counselors, and advisory boards who support their goals and growth.
